PNA Pancake Brunch – Saturday, 6/24, at Clinton Park

Join us on Saturday, June 24, from 10am to 12pm for pancakes in the park! See old friends, meet new neighbors, and enjoy good food in great company at Clinton Park shelter (901 W 5th St) courtesy of Pinkney Neighborhood Association.

Everyone who lives in the Pinkney Neighborhood is automatically a member of the Pinkney Neighborhood Association, so please join us whether you’ve participated in past PNA events or not!

We are looking for monetary donations to help with the cost of food for the pancake brunch. If you are able to give a little cash toward food costs, please mail it to PNA at P.O. Box 125, Lawrence, KS 66044.

At the brunch, we will be collecting food and financial contributions for our awesome local food bank, Just Food. We want to make sure kids and families don’t go hungry over the summer! ❤

• Changing our Neighborhood Name

  Our neighborhood name of “Pinckney” was recently changed to “Pinkney.” This change occurred because Pinckney with a ‘c’ was associated with Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, a Revolutionary War general who signed the Constitution and who also was a slaveholder who believed slavery was fundamental to the American way of life (he owned a large plantation in South Carolina). Given this problematic history, neighborhood residents voted to change our neighborhood name. To learn more about the year-long process, go to our dedicated webpage. The final round of voting ultimately landed on the name of “Pinkney” in honor of William Pinkney, who gave a famous anti-slavery speech in 1789.
